"I am an artist working primarily in pastel paintings, pencil drawings, embroidery, soft sculpture, and mixed media. My work explores themes of portraiture, urban landscapes, and body image issues, with a deep focus on the complexities of personal transformation—both inner and outer. Over the years, my practice has evolved from an emphasis on portraiture and urban construction-type works to an exploration of my own evolving journey, influenced by my academic background in history, theology, and spirituality.
While my work often begins with a concept, my process is deeply intuitive. I spend considerable time in research and writing, which informs my creative practice. This journey of discovery is a key element of my work, and I am increasingly aware of the influence of Expressionism on my practice, in its various forms over the decades.
I have always sought to connect with my viewers, inviting them to see the world as I do, or perhaps even to uncover new perspectives. I am especially moved by the idea, described by C.S. Lewis in Surprised by Joy, of the joy that comes from creating “worlds” through art. This desire to share my unique vision is at the core of my work.
Artists such as Kathe Kollwitz, Wassily Kandinsky, and Jackson Pollock have deeply influenced my approach, inspiring me to embrace both the emotional power and the abstract beauty that can emerge from the creative process. Ultimately, my goal is for my art to be a space where viewers can reflect on their own experiences of transformation, both physical and emotional, through the lens of my artistic exploration."
